Jenolan Caves and Blue Mountains

Highlights / General details
Head to the iconic Blue Mountains and drive through the tourist town of Katoomba, the gateway to the region. Katoomba first became known when a coal mine was established there in 1879. The town features lovely heritage cottages, a well-established guest house and hotel industry and many cafés and restaurants.
At Scenic World enjoy 360° views of the Jamison Valley. Purchase the Unlimited Discovery Pass option (at own expense) and ride the steepest incline Railway in the world down to a lush and hidden valley below. Gently ascend on the Cableway taking in panoramic views and ride on the Skyway which glides between cliff tops 270 metres above ancient ravines and the rainforest canopy.
From Scenic World you can see the imposing Three Sisters. According to Aboriginal legend, this unusual rock formation represents three sisters who were turned to stone. They are an amazing sight as the sun shifts to cast magnificent colors across the rock face.
The Jenolan Cave system stretches over an enormous 40 kilometres of multi- level passages, many still undergoing explorations. There are nine caves open to visitors, all featuring amazing lighting, underground rivers and limestone formations.
You’ll be captivated by Lucas Cave, the largest of the Jenolan Caves. You’ll meet your experienced Guide who will take you through the oldest known open cave system in the world. Its chambers are simply incredible with beautiful decoration. The tallest and widest chamber, reaching 54 metres, is known as the Cathedral and, with its incredible acoustic capabilities, has provided the setting for many underground concerts. At certain times, Lucas Cave will be replaced with a visit to Imperial or Chifley Cave.
Before heading back to the city, you simply must take in the beauty of the Blue Lake. This gorgeous sight is the result of mineral laden water seeping through the limestone caves. When cast in sunlight, the lake takes on the most captivating vivid blue colour. Definitely a great photo opportunity!
