Look beyond the land of the living on a walk among the tombs and mausoleums of Lisbon's cemeteries. This tour gives you a unique sense of the art and monuments that illustrate the city's centuries of history and culture, all as you hear stories about its most famous people.

After you meet your guide, set out along the sloping streets of the Bairro Alto on a journey to the ancient city's many burial grounds. Visit small, almost private cemeteries and some larger-than-life edifices as your guide tells tales of the locals' beliefs, richly romantic expectations of the afterlife, and the social meaning behind the changing artistic styles on the memorials.

Throughout the journey, you get a sense of the diverse makeup of Lisbon's people and culture across the ages. See the plots created for the non-Catholic deceased at the German and English cemeteries, and then walk up the hill to the Prazeres Cemetery, the city's largest, with grand structures that host the remains of the rich and famous.
